FAQ
How does your delivery service work?
SUP SML is a mobile business focused on timely and convenient delivery service. We deliver right to your door anywhere on Smith Mountain Lake and offer full-day and multi-day rentals.
SUP SML will deliver your paddle board between 8am and 10am on the day of your rental. We will pick it up between 7am and 10am the day after your rental period ends. During the checkout process, you'll be asked for a brief description of where you would like us to leave your board (On the dock, on the porch, etc). You will be responsible for leaving the board in that same place in time for us to pick it up.
What kind of weather can I expect during my rental?
Summers at Smith Mountain Lake are warm with highs in the 80's and occasional 90's. Summertime brings the chance of pop up thunderstorms so keep an eye on the sky. Here is the current 7 day forecast:
Do I have to wear a life jacket?
All SUP SML rentals come with a life jacket which we strongly encourage you to wear. According to Coast Guard regulations, all Paddle Boards must have a life jacket on board. Paddlers over the age of 13 are not required to wear the life jacket. Paddlers 12 and under are required to wear a life jacket at all times. You will choose the size you need during the checkout process.
Can I use the SUP early in the morning or late at night?
Your SUP can be used from sunrise to sunset. The paddle boards are not equipped with navigation lights and cannot be used from sunset to sunrise and during times of reduced visibility.

Is Stand Up Paddling Easy to Learn, do I need experience to rent?
Stand Up Paddling is easy to learn and no experience is required to rent from SUP SML. If you have previous paddling experience (canoe, kayak, outrigger) you will learn very quickly. The key to learning how to paddle board is to learn how to properly hold the paddle, how to perform an efficient paddle stroke, and how to maintain balance on the board while standing up.
We encourage you to watch our Instructional Videos before your rental period begins.
How old do I have to be to rent a Stand Up Paddleboard
Renters must be at least 18 years old or have a parent/guardian complete the waiver for both the adult and the minor. Adult supervision is required at all times.

Our boards can support up to 275 LBS.
Is there a damage deposit?
We do not charge a damage deposit. In lieu of a deposit we require payment via credit card and will authorize the card for an additional $200 over the cost of your rental.
